Everything you have about D2 currently will stay D2; this is another item, another game. You can play them in precisely the same time if you want."

In a follow-up to that query, Gallerani confirmed that players won't have the ability to draw characters from the first Diablo two forward into Diablo 2 Resurrected, so it looks like most of us Diablo veterans might have to start fresh when Resurrected lands on the scene (not that anyone is very likely to complain of that).

That part about Diablo 2 Resurrected not overwriting original Diablo 2 matches may appear to be a strange question to anyone who did not see the launch of Warcraft 3 Reforged at the start of 2020. Reforged replaced the original Warcraft 3 entirely, forcing players of this old version to update to the new customer even when they had not bought Warcraft 3 Reforged. That did not sit well with many lovers, therefore Blizzard is understandably looking to maintain the original Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Resurrected separate.

What's more, while there will be cross-progression -- that means things, characters, and progress throughout the game will carry over from platform to platform -- there is not cross-play planned for the sport right now.
